artistic policy | An Amateur Company that presents a season of 6 plays and a pantomime, every year. The Grove Park Theatre is now in its 77th year of continuous productions in Wrexham. For more than 25 years it has worked with young people and supported other theatre groups through hire of costumes, equipment and theatre premises. The theatre has been run entirely by volunteers throughout the whole of this time. In recent years they have had grants from the Arts Council and Lottery. The first was for a new sound-board and air-conditioning system. A recent grant helped to refurbish the auditorium and foyer. |
other notes | Full Members of the Theatre own it, take part in productions, either on stage (as actors), backstage (in the many technical departments such as set-building, decor, light, sound, wardrobe and makeup) or in front-of-house activities (such as stewarding, box office, bar, marketing, publicity and administration). This activity is supported by a series of voluntary skill-development sessions, many of which are taken by people working full time in the professional theatre. In the past we have had a variety of weekend courses for directors, for beginners in acting, for modern make-up and for pantomime props. This seasons workshops are planned on playing pantomime, sound and lighting. Some of these will be led by specialists from the professional theatre. If you wish to join in with any of these activities we will be pleased to welcome you. Most new members start by working alongside more experienced members and gradually take more responsibilities. There has been a Youth Section at Grove Park Theatre for many years. This thriving group for ages 12 to 15 meets on Thursday evenings at the Warehouse on Pierce`s Square. It follows a wide range of theatre activities, participates in main theatre productions and stages its own Youth Section Productions. Youth Section has provided early theatre experience for many people who have gone on to courses in drama schools, universities and then to theatre work. |
