artistic policy Eight years ago the Congress Youth Theatre was created, a not-for-profit youth theatre company, for a clear and simple purpose, to provide young people who might never have experienced this art form before, an opportunity to explore theatre in a supportive and professional atmosphere.

The Congress Youth Theatre is an umbrella charity organisation with its own constitution, in connection with the Congress Theatre Cwmbran. We meet in rented accommodation adjacent to the Theatre.

The company regularly perform at the Congress Theatre, a 319 seat venue, that is used for professional and community productions.

Our subscription at present consists of 120 members, with a large waiting list of 90. We cover the whole area of Torfaen, with members from the majority of local schools.

We meet in rented accommodation adjacent to the Congress Theatre.
other notes At present the Congress Youth Theatre is running on the goodwill of old members, that have been sucessful in various helpful areas and talents, this however doesn't secure the future of the C. Y .T . We have one director/ tutor and a musical director/ administrator, who have to fund there time with the youth theatre. With growing demands of the company, certain areas that are filled by volunteers like technical, costumes and accounts need to be filled by professionals. The two existing members of teaching staff are finding it increasingly difficult, to give the amount of attention to the large numbers envolved, also fulfilling each ares that needs to be taught by an expert, for example, Stage fighting, mask work, Certain areas of choreography etc.
