Welsh National Opera is seeking to appoint a trainee for dramaturg work for a fixed term period of 3 years which will carry the title the Nick John Trainee.

The successful candidate will report to David Pountney the Chief Executive and Artistic Director and will be engaged in a range of artistic and academic research for the operatic and concert repertoire for the Artistic Director’s themed seasons, as well as providing editorial work for the Marketing Department, giving pre-performance talks and preparing surtitles.


This is an ideal position for someone who has a passion for opera, an inquisitive mind who enjoys research and writing, as well as interaction with the public and wants to build a career in arts administration in research, translation and editorial work.

This trainee position will be mentored by David Pountney, one of opera’s leading directors. The position is supported by “The Nicholas John Trust” and the post is funding dependant.
