Past Away First presented in 2002
by Sgript Cymru

synopsis:
The Story:
"past away" is about faith, love, history and family in the new millennium, shown through the eyes of a plumber named Jo.
Ever had that feeling when some things make sense and other things don't add up at all..?
In the aftermath of his dad's death, Jo is haunted by the past, which everybody else seems to remember a lot better than he does. Brian, his stockbroker brother, seems to think that Jo was at his wedding, but Susan, his sister-in-law, insists, categorically, he wasn't. Eddie just the lodger? Then why does he keep helping himself to sandwiches that don't even belong to him? And why is Dave the bank manager threatening Brian and staking out their house over a measly £50 debt? If only their dad would come back and sort it all out.
But he won't. The past is the past and now this is another country.

The Play:
"past away" is an extraordinary new play by an exciting new talent.
Exploding the traditions of domestic melodrama, "past away" both exploits and undercuts the genre without ditching the audience or losing the plot. Understatedly described by the twenty two year old playwright herself as "a compilation of thoughts and images reflecting moments of human interaction", this startlingly poised, sexy and funny piece is a chamber play for the wired generation. Witty, intuitive and rich, "past away" is never less than fresh and alive. With a powerful theatrical sense and a sharp ear for buzzy dialogue, this play explores what it is like for four lives that can neither escape their past nor agree upon it.
