synopsis: Dance of the dragon tells the story of 5 teenagers who become separated from their friends on an outward bound hike across Snowdonia. The mists descend and the Soulcatcher lures them into her strange land of fallen souls. The Dragon has lost it's fire. Under the Soulcatcher's spell, they embark on a journey to find the dragon's fire. Along the way they meet a bizarre array of historical and mythological characters who help them confront the doubts and fears that trouble their lives. The play was commissioned by The Unknown Theatre Company in 1999/2000 and was premiered at Howardian Centre in October 2000 (original running time 2 and a quarter hours with 20 songs) and a shortened version was taken to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival Aug 2001 (1and a quarter hours 12 songs). A CD of the show is available and the script is available to other groups for production. The original cast was 40 but the Edinburgh version was 16. It could be performed with about 12/13 as a minimum. The songs are a mix of ballads, jazz, choral, and dance numbers |
