| brief history hanes cryno |
Trading Faces is a theatre company specialising in masks and physical theatre. The company started in 1987 and was based in Oxfordshire for 11 years up until the end of March 2005 when the company moved to its current base in Shropshire. Trading Faces has presented performances and projects throughout the West Midlands, Southern and South East Arts Regions and to venues throughout the country. 12,000 people a year are involved in Trading Faces activities as audiences or participants. Trading Faces performances are highly visual and physical. The company devises its professional shows through improvisation using full masks, half-masks and, most recently, commedia masks. Recent arts centre tours have included Creaking Shadows, Tempting Fate and The Wife of Bath. Work for family audiences includes collaborations with Forest Forge Theatre Company: Double Trouble (outdoor tour) and Jungle Book (schools tour) and The Little Prince with Oxfordshire Touring Theatre Company Over the last eighteen years under the direction of founder Tony Davies and co-Artistic Director Thomasina Carlyle Trading Faces have run an extensive education programme for colleges, schools, and community groups. Trading Faces’ participatory work has been documented on Channel 4, CBS, Central TV, Radio 4 and numerous publications including National Drama, London Drama and Prison Service News. Many projects are set up in partnership with venues, district authorities and local education authorities, whilst other projects are developed in response to requests from specific groups. All projects have performance as their main focus, with an equal bias on sharing skills and techniques that last beyond the life of the project. |
