brief history
hanes cryno
Back in summer 2007 Dirty Cat, Dirty Claire and Dirty Tim were bored of stuffy theatre so decided to start a revolution. Picking up Dirty Mared and Dirty Ellie on the way, they gave birth to a fiesty little beast called Dirty Protest. Ever since it has been drawing attention to itself, shaking up the arts world along the way. If you don't believe us The Guardian called Dirty Protest "cracking" and The Big Issue "spellbinding".

The premise has always been simple. Put established AND wannabe writers on the same platform, give them a four week deadline, the same topic and challenge them to create exciting, new work. Then take it to the pubs and the clubs, invite as many people as you can find and, finally, party. If a new band can head to a dirty dive and start a riot, then so can a theatre night.

Our home has always been a Yurt at the back of Milgi, Cardiff but we started to venture out of the tarpaulin circle for a few special nights.

Dirty P took over Cardiff's Sherman Theatre bringing its merry band of followers into a more formal theatre space and then staged Dirty Directors' night at TenFeetTall. Next up is a jaunt to Latitude Festival and a special night of new Welsh language theatre as we give it up for Wales' mother tongue with Protest Fudur.

We are collecting a merry band of experts and friends along the way and all this in less than a year.
