Green Ginger makes award-winning theatre for streets and stage with complementary educational activities for most ages and all abilities. Founded in Tenby in 1978 it creates innovative and accessible theatre featuring puppetry, and tours throughout the UK and extensively abroad. Current Productions: RUST Directed by Flick Ferdinando and with original music by Simon Preston, RUST is a tale of two pirate radio stations anchored in the same murky waters, just off the South Wales coast. One transmits from an ageing lightship into a fishpaste factory on the cliffs, whilst its arch-rival broadcasts from a submarine lurking just beneath the oil-slicked surface. RUST has just been awarded the People's Prize at the Meppel International Puppet Festival in the Netherlands where the company performed prior to a sell-out run at the world Puppet Festival in France. RECENT PRESS on RUST: "Excellent comic writing...the packed house roared its approval - largely merited in this inventive, well-written and satisfyingly bizarre show" ANIMATIONS "A work of art to be cherished there are some moments of real genius. The macabre puppets look wonderfully nightmarish" METRO "So bizarre, inventive, hilarious and charming that my sulky son was soon yodelling with laughter. The comic timing and visual detail is stunning...quite simply the best thing that Green Ginger has done for years in a word, riveting" VENUE Magazine RUST has been made possible with generous project funding by Arts Council Wales and Arts Council England. Touring support for Green Ginger is acknowledged from British Council and Arts Wales International. |
brief history hanes cryno |
Green Ginger was formed in 1978 in Tenby by Terry Lee, who established himself in film and television, working as a puppeteer and voice artist for ITV's successful satire Spitting Image and as a manipulator for Jim Henson's Dark Crystal, Labyrinth and Frank Oz's Little Shop of Horrors. Designer and maker Chris Pirie joined in 1986, having cut his teeth with Industrial & Domestic Theatre Contractors. In 1997 James Osborne joined Green Ginger as its Technical Director. The Company is fortunate to have a major influence on its work, film director and ex-Python Terry Gilliam as its Patron. Whilst concentrating its community and production activity in the UK, the Company tours regularly in Mainland Europe, Africa, the Middle East, North and South America and Japan. Green Ginger enjoys regular collaboration with major arts organisations, including Welsh National Opera, Ecole Superieure de la Marionette, Aardman Animations and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. |
