brief history hanes cryno |
Carlson Dance Company was formed in 1992 by Artistic Directors Emma Carlson and Sally Carlson. Prior to this, both performer-choreographer Emma Carlson and designer-director Sally Carlson worked extensively with numerous companies and choreographers in Wales, U.K and Europe. Since its formation the Company has created and toured nine substantial works, most of which have toured throughout the U.K and Europe. Venues have included The Place Theatre in London, Chapter Arts in Cardiff, Fabbrica Europa Festival in Florence, Art Berezillia Festival in Kiev, Bluecoat Arts Centre in Liverpool amongst others. The Companys work is suitable for small-mid scale venues. In 1998, the Company set up 'Dance Blast', a unique dance performance scheme for young people between the ages of 11 to 18. Dance Blast annual participation figures exceed 2,000. The Carlson sisters' work is a unique mélange of mesmerising dance, quirky humour and cut-throat theatrical absurdity. The Company is artist-led and strives for innovation and excellence. The Carlson sisters approach to making work often involves collaborating with other artists, such as sonic artist Robert Lippok of Berlins 'To Rococo Rot' and more recently with Pete Shenton of Live Bait. |
