Am a part time lecturer in music composition at LIPA, also a freelance composer,arranger,musical director and musician (bass guitar,guitar, mandolin, banjo, baglama, accordion). Ex-Library Theatre where I wrote orchestrations of Sondheim's 'Follies' Merrily We Roll Along' both for their European Premieres: Original music for 'Christmas Carol' 'The Golden Ass' Company' 'Baby' all for Library Theatre, Manchester. Arrangement for 'Shake Ya Body' by N-Trance, which was a hit single, and arrangement for brass section for band Red Venom, for their 'Let's Get It On' which was featured on the soundtrack of the movie Miss Congeniality. Community Projects, include large scale multi media pieces for colleges, primary schools, communnity plays, and for metropolitan borough councils, one of which won a P.R.S. Education Award, music and direction for The Brandy of the Damned, which was part of Manchester City of Drama 1994 and was commissioned by Salford Open Theatre: The Monkey Run which was put together by Western Area Arts and New Perspective Theatre Company.Held the first ever position of Jazz Animateur in Music Educatipn, and became Musician in Residience at the Music Education Department, in Met Bor of Wigan. 1993 Formed the Manchester Guitar Orchestra for the Halle Concerts Society Education Department. The first performance was held at the Bridgewater Hall. Also, masterclasses and workshops. Have performed with top Jazz Bands, but also with the Halle Orchestra, The Scottish National Orchestra and for David Fanshawe, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies and toured with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, playing guitars and banjo. My music compositions are too many to list, but range from music composed for solo guitar, based on poetry e.g. Stevie Smith's poetry, Sonatas, Jazz compositions,African township, Samba, Fado, Sega music, Choir and brass band. My piece 'The Snake' won the 1993 Marty Paich Award from BBC Radio and was broadcast. 1995 A concert was held at the Royal Northern College of Music for me and my music, and many of my pieces were performed by thirty-two musicians, forty singers, three conductors and the Royal Northern College of Music Big Band. I commute two days per week for part time work at LIPA,(the Paul McCartney college.) where I teach degree students music composition. I can fly back to the UK for any work that comes my way. |
