Michael Stevens is a free-lance playwright, living and working in North Wales. Recent community theatre work includes Gresford, a reconstruction of the 1934 pit disastster, Shotton, retelling the events surrounding the strike and closure at the steelworks, The Empire Changes Hands, a wry look at 1952 as seen through the eyes of a Dance Hall in Flint and United, where the fortunes of a struggling mixed football team are set against the terraces packed with a Male Voice Choir. He is currently working on a new community theatre project We’ll Keep A Welcome, commissioned by Age Concern North East Wales, a play focussing on the experience of evacuees who came from Merseyside in 1939. This play, supported by the Arts Council of Wales and Wrexham County Borough, will be premiered at the Wrexham Arts Festival in June 2008 before being seen in Mold, Caernarfon and the Unity Theatre, Liverpool. |
