T.V. Credits April 2002 - May 2005 Employed by Merseyside T.V. as script - writer on Channel 4’s serial drama ‘Hollyoaks’ - over 30 episodes. Part of storyline team. Radio Credits 'Camellia's House' - a play for BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour (Jan.2005) 'Steel Stitches' - Commission from BBC Wales for an hour long Radio Drama, researched with the people of Splott in Cardiff's old industrial and dock lands district. Special commission as part of Cardiff's Centenary Anniversary Celebrations. (Transmission in October 2005/Spring 2006) Theatre Credits 2005/06 - Currently under commission with Gwent Theatre in collaboration with The Wales Gene Park to research and write a play exploring the 'human, moral and ethical' stories and debate behind genetic research/ development. 2005 'Refuse' - A baby is discovered in a dustbin. This powerful new drama, commissioned by Gwent Theatre-in-Education Company, and targeted for teenagers explores issues about sex, sexuality and teenage pregnancy. Touring Sept - Dec. 2005 2005/6 'Estella's Fire' - Commission from Hi-jinx Theatre for National Tour. An original new play inspired by the iconic characters of Estella and Miss. Havisham from 'Great Expectations'. Touring Autumn 2006 2002 Nelson's Touch - Commission from Gwent Theatre. A play about the life of Horatio Nelson. 2001 Lizard's Tale - Play Commission with Gwent Theatre for tour of Secondary Schools (Years 9 - 10). Explores the legacy of domestic violence on a family. 2001 The Snow Queen Adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson's classic fairy tale for Hafren Theatre, Newtown, Christmas Show. 2001 Guest Director/writer at Coleg Powys Performing Arts Course - writing and directing Theatre Festival Performance ‘The Porcelain Princess' 2000 Manon's Feast - A Celtic Fairy story written for 'The Big Act' youth theatre. Large scale, residency at CARAD. 1998/9 Saving Grace - Written during Writer-in-Residence post at Newtown High School. (Before the film of that name!) Joint funded through several arts/social agencies. 1996 'Ladies Ladies' Set in 1937, a much loved tender, poignant and funny three-hander about three Ladies from the Valley's of South Wales, who meet to appreciate music in a deserted Summer House in the grounds of a crumbling stately home; where secrets and longings are revealed. Toured throughout Wales with Theatr Powys. Devising Director/Writer 1992 ‘The Present’ National Tour of Wales with Theatr Powys. A play about the rise of National Socialism in Germany - from the perspective of four young Berliners, one of whom is Jewish. Based on family history. Devising Director/Writer. 'The Present' appeared at The Barbican as part of a forum showcasing young people's work of excellence. 1992/3 ‘My Old Jumper’ Theatr Powys A play written during the war in Bosnia, researched with Bosnian Theatre Artists in exile. A ‘powerful, poignant, yet surprisingly gentle’ piece about a child caught in the crossfire of this terrible war. Toured to theatres throughout Wales, with a residency in London. 1991-2 'Red Dressing' Commissioned by Child Protection Agency - a powerful and uncompromising play about sexual abuse within a family. Commissioned by the Child Protection Agency, toured in Wales and England. Also bought by the Welsh Language company Cwmni Fran Wen, who toured a Welsh language production. Red Dressing became the centre piece at the National Conference of Social Work Directors in 1994 Other plays devised/written with Theatr Powys: 'Careless Talk'; 'Grandmother's Footsteps': 'Caretaker's Plot': 'Love Knot' Current Related Projects: 'The Boy Who Told Tales' - by Mike Kenny. Sherman Theatre, Cardiff. Director - Autumn 2005. Sherman Theatre - Youth Theatre Directorship and Writing Workshops for Young Writers. Sept - March 2006 Sgript Cymru - Leading a series of theatre writing workshops in collaboration with the New Theatre Cardiff for new writers. October 2005. Rural Media Company - Leading screen writing workshops for new writers. November 2005 OTHER RELATED WORK HISTORY: 2003/4 Writer in Residence with Sgript Cymru, Wales' New Writing Company - Based in Torfaen on 6 month residency with community. LIVE WIRE PROJECT 2002/3/4 The Rural Media Company in Herefordshire. Script development Workshops for young people, on the First Light Project. A series of Screenwriting Courses for aspiring adult writers. Part of Film Festival Programme. Jointly run with Tracy Spottiswoode 2003 Ongoing projects with CARAD, working as a writer in the community. ‘As hard as the stone they fell upon’ with a group of young people. 2003 Guest speaker/workshop leader at the W.O.W Festival in Liverpool. 1999 - 2000 Employed by CARAD to establish a new Youth Theatre in Rhayader, with a membership of 30 young people, self named The Big Act. I ran workshops through the year, a Summer School and Half Term residency. In September I wrote the script, resulting from these workshops, and MANON’S FEAST was performed in November 2000 1998/9 Writer in Residence at Newtown High School |
