5000 CHILDREN WILL SEE THEATR NA N’OG THIS AUTUMN

5000 CHILDREN WILL SEE THEATR NA N’OG THIS AUTUMN “I don’t know how you manage to improve on perfection but you do.”

Is just one of the many positive responses to Theatr na n’Og’s sell-out production of Halt! Who Goes There? The play written and directed by the company’s Artistic Director Geinor Jones is based on a true story and set during World War II. On the night of March the 10th and 11th 1945, seventy German Prisoners of War escaped from Camp 198 in Bridgend. It was the biggest escape attempt by German POWs in Britain during the Second World War.

Arwel Davies, Dion Davies, Naomi Martell and Huw Tiplady play four children, who armed with sticks and catapults set about capturing the Gerries!

"It’s what we’ve been waiting for…something exciting!”

In fact the whole community take part in the hunt for the POWs, even the local Girl Guide troupe! The children however discover a much darker secret!

The company’s 16-week run at the Dylan Thomas Theatre in Swansea is fully booked and over 5000 children aged 9 to 11 years old from over 100 schools from Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend will see the production by 10th December. It is the company’s fifth annual residency at the Dylan Thomas Theatre and its fifteenth year of collaboration with Swansea Museum.

The special evening performances are also popular and a great opportunity for adults to see the work too! The first on 23rd September has sold out but there are some seats available on 25th November. There is also a Welsh Language performance on 11th November. All performances start at 7pm and last approximately one hour. Anyone interested in attending a performance should contact Theatr na n’Og on 01639 641771 as soon as possible.

Based on the novel by Herbert Williams – “Come Out Wherever you are?” and with the design by Rachael Canning and lighting designed by Ceri James, this production gives children the opportunity to experience live theatre at its best.

“The aim of the project is to bring professional theatre for children on a scale that sometimes is not possible when the company tours to their school. At the Dylan Thomas Theatre we are able to provide young people with an engaging, and highly visual theatrical experience incorporated with an educational content that will provide teachers with a way to get children involved in learning and that the theatrical experience will stay with children for years to come,“ says Theatr na n’Og’s Artistic Director Geinor Jones.
