HIJINX HAPPINESS IN NEW HOME

On Monday 18th October, after 6 years of planning, Hijinx Theatre will take up residency in the Wales Millennium Centre.

Hijinx Theatre are delighted to be part of the Wales Millennium Centre (WMC). As well as offering fantastic opportunities for Hijinx to elevate small-scale theatre, the move will see a new office facility and the chance to collaborate with fellow residents and other arts organisations.

Hijinx Administrative Director, Val Hill said:
"My hope is that as our profile is raised it will give status to our audiences who are often marginalised and sometimes invisible"

Hijinx Theatre will perform in the Studio Theatre inside the Wales Millennium Centre during the opening season. This is a 250 seater venue where Hijinx will create intimate, friendly and moving theatre.

It is vital that theatre is made accessible and entertaining for all. The Donald Gordon Theatre (the main WMC stage with a capacity of 1,900) is an impressive venue, however it is important to realise that the Wales Millennium Centre is not all about a large capacity auditorium and traditional performances. Hijinx will bring plays to the people in the Studio Theatre.

And as part of their opening season in the WMC, Hijinx Theatre have a varied and valuable programme of events:

Odyssey Theatre will perform The Good, The Bad and The Cuddly by Paul Conway and Gaynor Lougher during the opening weekend and from 2nd - 4th December 2004. Set up by Hijinx in 1999, Odyssey is an inclusive community theatre project open to members of the public, and includes adults with learning disabilities.

Hijinx Theatre will present a rehearsed reading of extracts from their forthcoming touring production Spinning The Round Table by Lewis Davies, on 9th December 2004. This script in hand performance will give a passionate preview of a new play which Hijinx will tour in Autumn 2005.

Hijinx Theatre's current autumn community tour, Paul Robeson Knew My         Father by Greg Cullen will close at the Wales Millennium Centre on 10th and  11th December 2004. This play is a gripping fusion of theatre, film and music,  based on the legendary film start, singer and political activist, Paul Robeson  who forged strong connections with Wales.

Hijinx will continue to tour high quality plays, both for adults with learning disabilities and the general public, throughout Wales and England. Hijinx have always been, and will continue to be committed to bringing live theatre to those who do not normally have access to such an experience, an admirable quality for a resident of the prestigious Wales Millennium Centre.
