The manager of Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru has just confirmed that the steps they undertook over the allegations surrounding their Artistic Director Cefin Roberts have come to their end According to John Gwynedd Jones, General manager of the company, they approached the North Wales Police Force and received their assurance that they were not proposing to proceed any further with the matter. "We contacted the police to follow the matter up, and were informed that an investigation had taken place but that there was no case to answer. The police are not pursuing the issue further." Even though the Board of Management of the company is meeting at the end of the month, there is no certainty that the matter will be raised. In the meantime the solicitor who is representing the person who made the original allegations against Cefin Roberts has written to North Wales Police asking for an explanation of their decision not to take the matter further. John Gwynedd Jones confirmed that the company first became aware of the allegations when a member of the public came to speak to the Chairman of the company when they were on tour with their recent production of Romeo and Juliet. "Once we had that as a company we had to see if there was any substance to the allegations" said John Gwynedd Jones. The company us now satisfied with response of North Wales Police. The company is also in the process of looking into the backgrounds of all its staff in relation to working with young people and visiting schools or youth organisations. These sort of assessments are the norm for individuals and groups involved in this type of activity ____________________________________________________________ this item first appeared in welsh in Golwg magazine. The translation is mine and any errors of emphasis are due to me: KM |
