THEATR NA NOGS NEW MUSICAL PREPARES TO TOUR WALES Due to demand extra performances have been added to Theatr na n‘Og’s tour of their new musical production Melangell - The Princess and The Hunter, and the company and venues are advising audiences to book their tickets now. The production which is suitable for all ages will be touring theatres across Wales in Welsh and English from 17th February to 18th March 2005.

Rehearsals have begun for the cast of eight talented Welsh actor/musicians who have the challenge of performing the play in Welsh and in English. With the songs composed by Dyfan Jones (To Kill a Mockingbird; Rape of the Fair Country) and lyrics by Wales’ very own Welsh language Children’s Poet, Tudur Dylan Jones this is one theatrical event you can’t afford to miss!

Melangell, a beautiful Irish princess, sets sail for Wales fleeing an arranged marriage. She seeks refuge in the idyllic Cwm Pennant in Powys and befriends the animals that inhabit the land. All is well until the greedy, spoilt, young prince, Brochwel suddenly disrupts their Eden. Fearing for their lives, the animals turn to Melangell for help. But how will she help them to safety? And is it all too late?

The production is adapted from the original version produced by Theatr na n’Og for the annual Children’s Show at the National Eisteddfod in Meifod which featured a cast of 160 children from schools in Powys, and received a standing ovation from the 3,000 strong audience.

Melangell/The Princess and The Hunter opens in English at Theatr Brycheiniog in Brecon on 17th February 2005 and tours to ten venues throughout Wales in Welsh and English until Friday 18th March 2005. The tour includes first time performances at the new Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff and at The Riverfront in Newport.

Directed by Theatr na n’Og’s Artistic Director Geinor Jones with Set & Costume Design by Angharad Roberts and Lighting Design by Ceri James, Melangell/The Princess and The Hunter is a spellbinding new musical guaranteed to have you singing the songs long after leaving the theatre!
