Theatre group lands final grant

Improvements worth £2.5m at a theatre company in Aberystwyth are to go ahead, after it received European funding.

Arad Goch specialises in performing for young people in mid and south west Wales.

The company has now received nearly £575,000 of European Objective 1 money, the last piece of the funding it needed for building work to start.

Improvements will include a new studio and the conversion of the Old Manse building in the town's Bath Street.

In March, the company secured £1.8m from the Arts Council for Wales. It has also received £50,000 from Aberystwyth Town Council and further funding from the Welsh Development Agency.

As well as the structural improvements, theatre managers said the money would allow other artists and groups to develop new ventures.
