One of the great works of modernism, as influential as Picasso's Cubism or Schoenberg's pioneering work with the twelve-note scale.... Daily Telegraph Luigi Pirandello is widely regarded as one of the foremost innovators in twentieth-century theatre and has influenced the works of Beckett, Ayckbourn and Pinter. Six Characters in Search of an Author caused a riot when it was first produced in Rome in 1921 and was banned by the Lord Chamberlain from public performance in Britain until 1928. It remains today an extraordinary and fascinating play. A rehearsal is in progress when the actors are suddenly interrupted by six mysterious people, who demand to be put in a play. They are the characters of a story yet to be written. The director and actors find themselves drawn into a revealing tale of adultery, prostitution, suicide and near-incest, while universal questions of reality and illusion, Life versus Art, are given an intriguing twist. 15 - 19 November 2005 at 7:30pm Chapter Theatre Chapter Arts Centre, Market Road, Canton, Cardiff Box Office; Tel: 029 2030 4400 or Online: www.chapter.org Tickets: £8.00 (Conc: £6.00) SpecIal STUDENT & SCHOOLS OFFER Available visit www.everymantheatre.co.uk for details |
