Wales Theatre Company’s new production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet in Welsh and in English opens this week “Just as troops are massing on the Danish border, a ghost tells Hamlet that his father was murdered by the guy in charge – his uncle. That puts a spoke in the wheel of the war machine! The situation is also a consequence of Hamlet being the thirty year old layabout heir to the throne messing around with the fourteen year-old daughter of the Prime Minister – it is bound to end in tears. And a conquering army” MICHAEL BOGDANOV This autumn, Shakespeare’s Hamlet will be performed on stages across Welsh in the Bard’s Elizabethan English (- albeit with Welsh accents) and in Welsh thanks to a new translation by Gareth Miles. Under the direction of Michael Bogdanov a cast of leading Welsh actors including Wayne Cater, Wynfford Ellis Owen, Kathryn Dimery, Dafydd Emyr, Ieuan Rhys, Ryland Teifi, and Catrin Rhys, along with an internationally renowned production team have come together to produce what promises to be one of the theatrical highlights of the year. Yr hydref yma bydd Hamlet yn cael ei berfformio ar lwyfannau ledled Cymru yn Saesneg hynafol Shakespeare (- er gyda acenion Cymreig) ac yn y Gymraeg diolch i gyfiaethiad disglair newydd o’r ddrama gan Gareth Miles. Dan gyfarwyddid Michael Bogdanov mae cast o actorion blaenllaw Cymru gan gynnwys Wayne Cater, Wynfford Ellis Owen, Kathryn Dimery, Dafydd Emyr, Ieuan Rhys, Ryland Teifi, a Catrin Rhys, ynghyd â thim cynhyrchu o nôd rhyngwladol wedi dod at ei gilydd i gynhyrchu beth sy’n addo bod yn un o uchafbwyntiau theatrig y flwyddyn.
