A lifestyle experience in 58 minutes Aberystwyth based Arad Goch Theatre Company are taking their latest production of Stones by Tom Lycos and Stefo Nantsou on a Wales-wide tour starting on February 6th. During the five week run the company will perform Welsh and English versions of the play in venues from Newport to Holyhead and more or less every where else in between!

Stones is an award-winning play - and rightly so. It is a raw, high-energy portrayal of two not totally untypical teenage boys. Based on a newspaper report bearing the sensationalist title ‘BOYS ON DEATH CHARGE’, Stones tells the story of two boys as their ‘mucking about’ turns into a crime.

Stones is the ultimate in realism – real story, real language, real characters and a real, if controversial, verdict. This realism is bound to cause discussion and debate – about youth justice, about disaffection amongst young people, about the portrayal of young people, their actions, their language, and about the attitude of adults to youth and youth crime.

This is also real theatre – an essential and energised combination of narrative, dialogue, music and movement and one of the best and most popular contemporary plays for young people.

This is Arad Goch’s second production of Stones. In 2000 the Australian playwrights came to Wales to direct the company’s first production. Since then the play has been performed world-wide to great acclaim. This time the play is being directed by Sêra Moore Williams but the two characters are played by Iwan Charles and Owain Ll_r Edwards who portrayed the boys the first time round. Charles and Edwards are obviously delighted to be involved once again – “this piece works so well for audiences of young people and adults alike” comments Charles “it has angst and humour and above all it is relevant to people’s lives today”. And Edwards adds: “An extra bonus is that all this is packed into a play that lasts only an hour – a big plus for time-strapped audiences”.

The tour starts at the Riverfront in Newport (Welsh production) on 6 February. For further details of the tour contact Arad Goch Theatre Company 01970 617998, or visit the website
