CANTERBURY TALES

CANTERBURY TALES A Mappa Mundi / Theatr Mwldan / Creu Cymru Co-Production…

Mappa Mundi Theatre, the company that brought you the all male ‘Taming of the Shrew’, ‘The Three Musketeers’ Live at Cardiff Castle, Molier’s ‘Tartuffe’ and ‘As You Like it’, return to Welsh stages from February to April 2006, taking their downright funny new play Canterbury Tales on a 23 date tour of 19 venues throughout Wales – making this the biggest tour of Wales of a play of this scale for many years, and a journey that might almost rival that of Chaucer’s pilgrims to Canterbury!

Mappa Mundi have formed a new partnership with Theatr Mwldan and Creu Cymru to co-produce Canterbury Tales under the Arts Outside Cardiff scheme. The idea for Canterbury Tales came about following Mappa Mundi’s very successful performance of Richard III at Theatr Mwldan nearly a year ago, and it is hoped that this new tour of Canterbury Tales will help to build audiences for small to mid scale touring theatre in Wales, something which Mappa Mundi have always done fabulously.

Canterbury Tales, fills the stage with a hugely entertaining blend of boisterous comedy, romance, fetching images and heaps of wit and charm. All of life’s rich tapestry is here, as a group of Welsh commoners pass the time on their annual pilgrimage to Canterbury by performing some of Chaucer’s most appealing tales. The show features some of Chaucer’s best-loved stories (including The Miller’s Tale, The Nun’s Priest’s Tale and The Wife of Bath’s Tale), all set to a delightful original score.

Mappa Mundi actor and writer Kieron Self will be a familiar face to many as Roger the dentist in the BBC sitcom My Family and also as PC Cox in BBC Wales’ High Hopes.
