Spring Drama at WMC

Drama is set to feature heavily over the next two months at Wales Millennium Centre’s 200-seater theatre, the Weston Studio, which will play host to six contemporary drama performances from March to April.

All six performances will provide audiences with a mix of issues and emotions ranging from love, justice and redemption to revenge, desire and corruption.

The first performance to feature at the Weston Studio in March is Crush, an imaginative recreation of Jane Austen’s well-loved Sense and Sensibility which follows the lives of two sisters in London in the 1980’s. This extraordinary version has something for everyone, from young audiences to those who love classic literature.

Be prepared for a roller-coaster ride of loud, bruising theatre with our next performance (17-18 March), Get Carter, which is the first stage version adaptation of the Ted Lewis novel and the classic 70’s film starring Michael Caine and Britt Ekland.

Harold Pinter’s Old Times will show for three nights from 30 March-1 April. Pinter, awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2005, has written 29 plays including the The Birthday Party, Betrayal and The Caretaker and has also written 21 screenplays including the The Servant and The French Lieutenant's Woman.

Mid Powys Youth Theatre and Theatre Powys join forces to present Edward Bond’s The Children on the 8th April. Bond is widely regarded as the most important living playwright in the English language.

New theatre company, Sitting Pretty Theatre, from Aberystwyth will present Banshee’s on the 10th April followed by Llwyfan Gogledd Cymru’s Welsh language play, Theatr Freuddwydion, scripted by Dewi Rhys from 11-12 April.

Wales Millennium Centre’s Theatre Programmer Louise Miles-Crust says, “We have a diversity of programming lined-up this spring at the Weston Studio including dance and music concerts, but the sheer amount of theatre on show over the next two months is something which we are very proud of.”
