Education officials today said kissing has not been banned from school plays, despite strict new guidelines. But staff are being advised to use kissing in love scenes as a last resort, to limit swearing and to ensure plays are adapted to protect children. The draft guidelines were drawn up by the Welsh Assembly Government, working with the Department for Education and Skills and examining boards, in response to recommendations in the Clywch report. Children's Commissioner for Wales, Peter Clarke, made 30 recommendations in his report which investigated allegations that drama teacher John Owen had sexually abused pupils at Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen, in Pontypridd. He committed suicide before he could face trial. Members of the public, teachers, and theatre groups can have their say on the draft guidance next month. full story on the ICWales web site listed below |
