Following sell-out performances at Clwyd Theatr Cymru in Mold, Terry Hands brings Alan Ayckbourn’s classic A Chorus of Disapproval to the New Theatre. This witty comedy about the backstage antics and affairs of an amateur dramatics group runs from Tuesday 7 March until Saturday 11 March.Dafydd is a boisterous, extrovert Welshman, struggling to direct Pendon Light Amateur Operatic Society’s chaotic production of The Beggar's Opera. He finds the production’s saviour in enthusiastic newcomer Guy Jones, who quickly becomes a close friend. But Guy is seduced by Fay, the company’s resident man-eater, and then starts an affair with Hannah — Dafydd’s desperate wife. As jealousies multiply, Guy is destined to make a hilarious impact both on and off stage! The talented cast includes many familiar Welsh faces. Robert Blythe, known to many as Richard “Fagin” Hepplewhite in 4 series of BBC Wales sitcom High Hopes, plays budding director Dafydd with Julian Lewis Jones, Tom Beresford from the hit ITV series Where The Heart Is, as new heart-throb Guy. The ravishing Fay is played by Hannah Waddingham, who will soon be seen as the new Thermowoman in the BBC show My Hero and will take to the West End stage this autumn as the female lead in Monty Python musical Spamalot. Few dramatists have retained such lasting popularity with critics and public alike as Alan Ayckbourn. He is the most commercially successful playwright in Britain today and has 7 Evening Standard Awards and 9 Olivier Awards — including Best Comedy for A Chorus of Disapproval – to his name. Ayckbourn has written almost 70 plays which have been translated into 35 languages and are performed throughout the world. He says "In answer to those people who keep asking me why I don't write a serious play...if it makes you laugh, treasure it. I'm very happy to be privileged enough to write comedy". A Chorus of Disapproval is at the New Theatre, Cardiff from Tuesday 7 March to Saturday 4 March. Tickets are on sale now, with prices from £7.
