The Sherman Youth Theatre will present an action packed retelling of the timeless classic Caucasian Chalk Circle at The Sherman Theatre, Cardiff on Friday 3 – Saturday 4 March. The Sherman Youth Theatre have worked with 3 guest directors over the past 5 months to produce Bertolt Brecht’s Caucasian Chalk Circle. “The Sherman Youth Theatre is a fantastic opportunity for kids to be a part of a show and work within a professional working theatre.” Youth Theatre Director Phil MacKenzie remarks, “Caucasian Chalk Circle is in essence a good simple story and a fantastic opportunity to showcase the company’s talent.” Caucasian Chalk Circle is a stirring drama that tells the story of two villages warring over their land with the overall message that what is there should go to those who are the most deserving of it. A travelling group of actors echo this message with stories of people who have had to prove themselves to be worthy of something. “Even the smallest character has a big impact on the plot so we wanted to give each kid some responsibility in telling the story”, Guest Director Adele Thomas comments, “It is also a lovely story with great characters, epic drama and lots of fun!” The Sherman Youth Theatre provides a professional environment where young people interested in theatre can learn about performance within a theatre environment. The company of 45 young people, aged 10-25 meet weekly at The Sherman Theatre and through participatory workshops, acting techniques and performances to develop a wide range of skills covering all theatre disciplines. Caucasian Chalk Circle will be on at The Sherman Theatre on Friday 3 – Saturday 4 March at 7.30pm with a 2pm matinee performance on the Friday. Tickets are just £7 (£5 Reductions) and can be booked now on 029 2064 6900. |
