BAFTA WINNER’S PLAY COMES TO THE RIVERFRONT

BAFTA WINNER’S PLAY COMES TO THE RIVERFRONT ONLY A MATTER OF TIME, Alan Plater’s intriguing political Welsh comedy, is coming to The Riverfront, Newport’s premier theatre and arts centre, as part of its Welsh tour on 7 and 8 March 2006 at 7.30pm.

Award winning writer Plater carries us back to a forgotten era when England and Wales ran at different times, and there was a half hour time difference between the eastern and western extremities. Taking the moment of standardisation, necessitated by the ‘progress’ of Brunel’s railway, as his starting point, Plater’s comedy follows two characters from the 1820s through to their present day incarnations, and invites us to watch the consequences unfold.

Bafta winning Alan Plater has over 200 credits in radio, television, theatre and films and is best known for his popular televisions series including The Barchester Chronicles, The Beiderbeck Trilogy and The Last of the Blond Bombshells.

The performance stars Giles Thomas and Gareth Bale, winner of the 2006 most promising young performer award at the Welsh Theatre Awards, and has been described by The Stage as,

“Fine entertainment and gentle education, with ingredients of folklore and fact.”

Tickets for Only a Matter of Time start from £5.50 and can be purchased by calling The Riverfront Box Office on 01633 656757 or visiting www.newport.gov.uk/riverfront.
