Joseph Tramontana and Stefan Deracine make their plans for the voyage, but their departure is interrupted by the arrival of two women, travelling in the other direction, who challenge their preconceptions of what it is to be “in Europe” in the 21st Century. “With The Custom House, Kit Lambert has successfully brought us a Vladimir and Estragon for the 21st Century” - Jens Lampeter, Courtyard Theatre You may remember that last July extracts from The Custom House beat off fierce competition to win the grand final of the Sherman ScriptSlam 2005 competition. Venue Two will now host the very first production of the completed play, which was recently shortlisted out of over 200 new plays for the prestigious Kings Cross New Writing Award. Using cast members from the Sherman Nation company, launched in 2004 to promote new writing and provide a platform for up-and-coming performers, this promises to be an evening of first-class theatre. Kit Lambert, who lives in Penarth, is one of the young writers working in Wales that benefited from a recent residential course funded by Sgript Cymru, aimed at helping to develop the next generation of Welsh playwrights. “I owe a lot to the support I’ve received from the Sherman Theatre and Sgript Cymru in the last year or so. It is not easy to get started as a writer, but to see a production of my work at one of South Wales’ best venues is a dream come true.” - Kit Lambert The Custom House is on at Venue Two in the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff, on Thursday 30th March at 8pm.
