Swansea sweetheart, Ria Jones, is coming home to Wales to star as sexy showgirl Reno Sweeny in the multi award-winning musical Anything Goes at Wales Millennium Centre (WMC) from Monday 3-8 April. Making her début performance as Nancy in her schools production of Oliver at Swansea's Pentrehafod Comprehensive, Ria, has enjoyed an outstanding career winning lead roles in many West End musicals including Cats, Chess, Evita, Les Misérables and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Ria is joined on stage with star of Brookside Michael Starke (Sinbad), TV favourite Angela Rippon and Barry Howard (Hi-De-Hi). Packed with timeless Cole Porter classics, Anything Goes includes It’s De-Lovely, I Get a Kick out of You and Blow, Gabriel, Blow. Wales Millennium Centre’s Development Director Richard Tynen explains, “Ria really is the star of this show and has such an amazing voice which will fill every corner of the Donald Gordon Theatre. This will be Ria’s second visit to the Centre. She first came here before the building was finished and sang on stage with her hardhat!” The award winning show, making its way from Broadway, has received rave reviews and Ria’s stage presence has already made her portrayal of Reno one of the show’s highlights. The national tour opened at The Lowry in Manchester on Friday 27 January. The show tells the story of a Luxury ocean liner the S.S. American, which sets sail for England with a cargo of colourful characters. Stowaway Billy Crocker is chasing the delectable Hope Harcourt whilst being pursued in turn by ex-evangelist turned nightclub hostess, Reno Sweeney. Amid the romance, gangster Moonface Martin and a smattering of dim-witted FBI agents add high farce to this romantic comedy. Tickets for this show range from £5-£29 and to book your tickets, contact the WMC ticket and information office on 08700 40 2000 or visit: www.wmc.org.uk |
