Sundance - Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru

Sundance - Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru A play, which exposes the inner thoughts of a young man besotted by Cowboy Films and Cinema Westerns as a means of escaping the memories of a much troubled and confusing upbringing, will tour theatre venues across Wales this month.

Sundance, which is a Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru – the Welsh National Touring Company – production, is a hard-hitting and perceptive monologue by one of Wales’ most controversial playwrights, the Porthmadog-based Church in Wales priest, Aled Jones Williams.

“This production again continues our policy of staging classics be they from the conventional or absurd theatre traditions,” said Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru’s Marketing Manager, Elwyn Williams.
“Sundance is undoubtedly from the latter and provides audiences with a disturbing insight into the darkest recesses of the human mind and consciousness,” he added.

Sundance in played by Anglesey-actor, Owen Arwyn, who is one of Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru’s team of core actors. He received particular acclaim for his portrayal of Sundance when the play was staged during last year’s National Eisteddfod of Wales in Bangor. He has also taken leading roles in all Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru productions since the company was established two years ago.

“I’m looking forward immensely to taking Sundance to an all-Wales audience,” said Owen Arwyn, who comes from the Anglesey village of Llanfachraeth.
“It’s a thought provoking play which will remain in the memory for some time,” he added.
