WAPA welcomes the progress being made on the review into the funding of the arts in Wales following the decision made in the National Assembly on February 1st. We look forward to presenting evidence to the Review Panel when it is set up.WAPA is however deeply concerned at the failure of the Assembly Government to advertise and organise a replacement Chair for the Arts Council of Wales in the wake of the decision taken in December not to re-appoint Geraint Talfan Davies. Given that this Review will determine policy guidelines for the medium to longterm we believe it is vital that the issues are discussed with the Panel in as much depth as possible. We therefore urge the Minister for Culture, Welsh Language and Sport to extend Mr Talfan Davies’s period as Chair of ACW through to the completion of the Review in December 2006. Chris Ryde Chair 17th March 2006 WAPA is the main umbrella organisation for the professional performing arts in Wales. |
