THE RETURN OF THE FIRST LADY OF CRIME

THE RETURN OF THE FIRST LADY OF CRIME The poisoned pen of Agatha Christie makes a murderous return to the New Theatre with The Hollow from Monday 10 to Saturday 15 April. Kate O’Mara, Tony Britton and Chloe Newsome form part of an all-star cast in this witty and devious thriller from the undisputed first lady of crime.

When Sir Henry and Lucy Angkatell invite a group of friends to spend the weekend at their beautiful country retreat, The Hollow, little do they know that the simmering tension between their guests will explode into murder… At The Hollow Dr John Cristow finds himself in the company of both his mistress and wife. As Cristow reignites his affair, his ex-mistress Veronica urges him to leave his wife and marry her instead. When he refuses, she gives him an ultimatum: if she cannot have him, no one else shall. Within five minutes, Cristow is dead. But as it emerges everyone in the house had a motive for the murder it becomes clear the case is far from straightforward.

From the best-selling fiction author of all time The Hollow’s starry cast includes: British stage and screen icon, Kate O'Mara (Joan Collins' manipulative sister in Dynasty and recently seen in Bad Girls) alongside her Howard’s Way co-star Tracey Childs (currently starring in Born And Bred), together with celebrated stage actor, Tony Britton (the star of 70s spy thriller Day of the Jackal and much-loved sitcom Don't Wait Up), Gary Mavers (Peak Practice) and Coronation Street favourite Chloe Newsome (Vicky McDonald).

Voted the Best Writer of the 20th Century, Agatha Christie has sold more than 2 billion books in a prolific career that spanned over 50 years. In this time Christie wrote 80 novels and 19 plays including The Hollow, which she personally adapted from her own novel of the same name.

Following a four year embargo on Christie’s work The Hollow marks the inaugural production for the newly formed Agatha Christie Theatre Company. Christie’s grandson Matthew Pritchard is the Chairman of Agatha Christie Ltd, “These will be first class productions of my grandmother’s work. Her plays remain as enduringly popular as ever and … we are thrilled [that] her plays are [being] presented in productions of the high quality which they deserve.”

The Hollow is at the New Theatre, Cardiff from Monday 10 to Saturday 15 April. Tickets are on sale now, with prices from £7. There is a performance interpreted in British Sign Language on Saturday 15 April at 2.30pm.
