Henri Oguike Dance Company to Perform at The Sherman

Henri Oguike Dance Company to Perform at The Sherman Henri Oguike, the Welsh-Nigerian dance wonder from Port Talbot brings his highly acclaimed dance company to The Sherman Theatre for one night only on Tuesday 16 May.

The Henri Oguike Dance Company will take to the stage with their vibrant and thrilling choreography including two distinctive new works – Expression Lines, Oguike’ solo piece, and How I Look which features the full company. The performance will also include Second Signal, played live by leading taiko drumming group Taiko Meantime, and Tiger Dancing, a bright and animated piece inspired by Blake’s poem “The Tyger”.

Oguike started his career as a dancer, gaining rave notices from critics with The Richard Alston Dance Company after graduating from the London Contemporary Dance School. Then, at 28 he snapped his achilles tendon and found himself devising A Moment of Give, the piece that would kick-start his career in choreography and lead Oguike to form his own dance company.

Started in 1999, the Henri Oguike Dance Company has received worldwide attention with Oguike’s intelligent and contemporary signature style and Oguike has been likened to American dancer-choreographer Mark Morris.

The Henri Oguike Dance Company will be at The Sherman Theatre, Cardiff for one performance only on Tuesday 16 May at 7.30pm. Tickets are £13 (Reductions £11.50) and can be booked from The Sherman Theatre Box Office on 029 2064 6900.
