The Imperial Ice Stars will be returning to Wales Millennium Centre this Christmas, 21 December 2006 – 7 January 2007, with its new production of Swan Lake on Ice, due to go on sale from Monday 1 May.The company first came to Wales Millennium Centre (WMC) in January 2005, not soon after the Centre opened its doors, and was the first skating production to take to the Welsh stage with Sleeping Beauty on Ice which proved popular with Welsh audiences. Wales Millennium Centre’s Programming & Marketing Director, Fiona Allan, says, “Ever since the fantastic audience response we had when we opened the UK tour of Sleeping Beauty on Ice, I’ve been in discussion with the producers of Imperial Ice Stars to make sure that this new production, Swan Lake on Ice, visits Cardiff. “To call this an ‘ice show’ doesn’t come close to capturing how amazing this production really is. This is dance on ice performed by some of the top skaters in the world. Tony Mercer, the world famous ice choreographer, has created a version of the much loved ballet Swan Lake incorporating all the intricate moves you’d see at the Winter Olympics. This is perfect family entertainment for Christmas.” Swan Lake on Ice, which comes to WMC for a three-week stretch following its premier in Australia, will be performed to Tchaikovsky's unforgettable music by 26 Olympic, World, European and National Championship skaters who between them have won more than 200 medals. The sets have been designed by Australia’s leading designer Eamon D'Arcy, Australia's leading designer with costumes by Albena Galubeoa from Moscow's famed Stanislovsky Theatre. The Imperial Ice Stars are widely regarded as the premier ice skating company in the world. Their last production, Sleeping Beauty on Ice, played to over 500,000 people in ten countries in such venues as the Amsterdam Opera House and Cape Town's Artscape. Audiences and critics were united in their praise, with the show performing to nightly standing ovations. |
