11 May 2006Celebrity Restaurant at St David’s Hall 6.30 pm Wine Reception This celebration of poetry and Cardiff is the culmination of Gillian Clarke’s term as the first Capital Poet. Gillian was appointed in 2005 to help celebrate the centenary of Cardiff as a city and its fiftieth anniversary as the Welsh Capital. The event which will be held in the Celebrity Restaurant at St David’s Hall begins at 6.30pm with a wine reception. Gillian will be reading some of her Cardiff inspired poems. She will read alongside her special guests Kathryn Gray, Imtiaz Dharker and Maura Dooley. Book of the Year long listed poet Ifor Thomas will introduce the evening. The much awaited results of the 2006 Cardiff International Poetry Competition will be announced by Hilary Llewellyn-Williams who, along with Adrian Mitchell, judged the competition. All of the prize winning poems will be read at the event. The Capital Poet project and Cardiff International Poetry Competition are administered by Academi with the financial assistance of Cardiff Council.
