On 22nd – 24th June the wonderful wizardry of Odyssey Theatre will transport you beyond the rainbow as they take to the Wales Millennium Centre stage in their brand new production, The Ozard of Wiz written and directed by Richard Berry. Journeying down The Yellow Brick Road, Odyssey will bring their special twist to this magical tale as a fork in the road appears. Will Dorothy continue her journey to the Land of Oz where dreams come true or will she be drawn to the bright lights and glitzy sights in the Land of Wiz where Ozards rule? Wherever her red shoes take her, Dorothy’s journey will be full of music, songs and memorable characters. Writer and Director Richard Berry said: “The choice of titles can play its part in setting the scene for Odyssey shows that we now expect to be somewhat out of the ordinary. This primes our audiences for something familiar yet different. We have taken favourite stories and given them our special treatment. It will be told in our usual style with plenty of songs, jokes and dances. The joy for us is that almost everyone has some idea of the story and setting of the original 1939 version of the Wizard of Oz. This is strength for us in our rehearsals!” This will be Odyssey’s 13th production and the 5th time we have worked with Community Music Wales and Canton and Riverside Services. Odyssey Theatre is a performance group for anyone who has a desire to perform including adults with learning disabilities. The group was set up by Hijinx in 1999, and they meet for weekly workshops at the Norwegian Church, Cardiff Bay. Hijinx Theatre is a resident company of the Wales Millennium Centre, and are delighted that Odyssey Theatre will perform on our home stage in our 25th year. |
