The comic wit of Wales’ favourite playwright, Frank Vickery, makes a welcome return to the New Theatre with the all-female comedy A Kiss on the Bottom. A highly successful tour of Wales culminates in a week long run at the New Theatre from Tuesday 13 to Saturday 17 June.Gob of the Valleys, Marlene is consigned to her hospital bed just two weeks before her daughter’s wedding. She is determined to be out in time for the big day, but can’t resist interfering in the lives of all on the ward in the meantime. Despite Marlene’s good intentions the results of her ‘help’ is equally annoying and hysterical! Larger than life Marlene is played by acclaimed actress Di Botcher. Di is no stranger to playing bolshie characters, being widely known as the bossy Vanessa Doyle in BBC Wales’ ongoing drama Belonging. She has also put in dramatic performances in Tipping The Velvet and the multi-BAFTA winning Bleak House. Di has displayed her comedic talents in award-winning shows Little Britain, Green Wing and The Thick of It, as well as in 4 series of BBC Wales’ High Hopes. First performed at the Sherman Theatre in 1991, A Kiss on the Bottom is a brilliant comedy that skilfully combines witty humour and hilarious situations with moments of poignancy and warmth. Fans of Frank Vickery’s other work, such as last year’s Tonto Evans, will recognise the crackling banter and Vickery’s distinct Valleys style of humour that makes A Kiss on the Bottom a great night out. Kiss on the Bottom is at the New Theatre, Cardiff from Tuesday 13 to Saturday 17 June. Tickets are on sale now, with prices from £7.
