Sgript Cymru is launching a new online blog which will ‘lift the lid’ on the process of new writing. To coincide with their latest production Orange by Alan Harris the company has launched an online blog to let the public keep up to date and become involved in the production process. The blog will start when Director Tessa Walker has her first meeting with writer Alan Harris and will continue until the final performance. Contributions will be made by cast, crew, writer, director and Sgript Cymru staff and will include revealing insights into the casting process, how a script is developed, production design, inspiration behind the play as well as the opinions, problems, tears and traumas encountered along the way! The aim is to give the audience a complete picture of how a piece of new writing can move from commission to performance. The audience will be able to see rehearsal shots and behind the scenes information and are also encouraged to get interactive and leave comments or questions on the blog. The blog can be viewed at: www.orangetheplay.co.uk Simon Harris, Artistic Director of Sgript Cymru says: “One of the big issues facing the arts in the UK today is to do with engaging the general public and trying to make ourselves more accessible. People are increasingly used to a more instant and customised form of communication in other areas of life and theatre needs to follow suit. Technology offers us ideas to be able to achieve this and a blog page will offer insight into an art form that for some people can be off-putting and remote.” Orange will be performed at Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff from the 6th to the 23rd of September 2006. |
