MINISTER WELCOMES INDIAN DANCERS TO CARDIFF BAY

The sights and sounds of India came to Cardiff Bay today [3 July 2006] when a group of Indian dancers paid a visit to the Senedd building.

Culture Minister Alun Pugh welcomed the Heritage Dancers from Patialia who are on their way to Llangollen to compete in this year's 60th International Musical Eisteddfod.

The group of around 30 dancers are regular visitors to Llangollen and will be one of almost 50 different performing nations attending this year's festival. They will be competing in a number of dancing competitions at the event. Their repertoire of dance, including Bhangra, Jhoomar and Dhartimaa, is accompanied by traditional instruments.

Alun Pugh said: "The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod is one of the cultural highlights of the summer and a place where Wales meets the world. I'm pleased to welcome the Heritage Dancers to Wales and wish them the best of luck at this year's Eisteddfod. Their dancing display was certainly vibrant and colourful so visitors to this year's festival are in for a treat. "

The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod runs from 4 - 9 July. The First Minister, Rhodri Morgan, will be Day President of this year's festival on Saturday 8 July.
