WYESIDE ANNOUNCES AUTUMN SEASON

WYESIDE ANNOUNCES AUTUMN SEASON Comedy, drama, dance, music and wrestling – all are on offer at Wyeside this autumn!

The Builth Wells venue is making entertainment more affordable than ever, with the launch of an ambitious new initiative that offers free tickets to audience members aged 18 and under on selected shows.

For the past several years, Wyeside has been committed to keeping prices for live events at just £5 for those aged up to 18. Now, the venue’s commitment to building audiences has gone further; anyone paying for a ticket for 11 of the 25 shows this autumn is entitled to claim an ‘£18 and under’ ticket free.

Guy Roderick, Director of Wyeside, said “Wyeside has always been committed to providing accessible, affordable live entertainment for the whole community. This new scheme will not only help whole families to visit Wyeside without breaking the bank, but will allow two young people to attend at £2.50 each. The shows featured in the promotion include classical, folk and world music, as well as theatre, and I hope offers something for all tastes – just like Wyeside’s programme as a whole!”

International music and dance
Wyeside is welcoming distinguished musicians from around the world this autumn, including Kroke (9 September), who play and compose authentic Jewish music from central Europe and the Balkans. The Kala Chethena Kathakali Company (18 September) includes some of the world’s foremost performers of the South Indian form of dance drama Kathakali, which originated in the temples of Kerala over 500 years ago. From Spain, Jaleo Flamenco (1 October) are back with a new insight into their flamboyant world of Andalusian dance, song and guitar.

The turbo-charged Gypsy wedding band King Naat Veliov and the Kocani Orkestar (15 October) will be bringing their powerful brass band sounds and Turking/Bulgarian rhythms from Macedonia, while from Spain, the virtuoso guitarist Eduardo Niebla (26 November) returns after his previous sold out show at Wyeside. Niebla has traversed the worlds of pop, jazz and world music in his continuing quest for new musical terrain. Along with his fellow performers Jake Lenson (guitar) and Sanju Sahai (tabla), Eduardo will be performing music from his latest album, Lights from the Inner Side.

Drama
The autumn theatre programme includes Not the National Theatre Company’s production of Wild East (21 October). This play by April de Angelis, first performed at the Royal Court Theatre last year, is a witty satire on the corporate world that features one innocent student, two intimidating women, an insatiable corporation and some yogurt eating bears. Wyeside regulars Hijinx Theatre Company return with Estella’s Fire (11 November) by Louise Osborn, an original play inspired by the characters of Estella and Miss Havisham from Dickens’ Great Expectations.

Full details of the season can be found in the new live shows brochure, or at www.wyeside.co.uk. Tickets can be booked in advance by calling the box office on 01982 552555 (6pm – 9pm, Tuesday - Sunday).
