A Big Thank You from Theatr na n'Óg

A Big Thank You from Theatr na n'Óg Well, they unfurled the sails, hauled in the archor and scrubed the decks in style at the Pasiant y Plant with Theatr na n'Óg, at this year’s National Eisteddfod.
Opening the Eisteddfod’s first Saturday night concert at 8.00pm on August 5th, Halen yn y Gwaed was a huge success and was followed by an equally stunning performance at the National Waterfront Museum last Wednesday evening.

Theatr na n'Óg would like to say a massive thank you to all the children who performed and also to their supportive families. The children’s commitment and enthusiasm to take part in this production has been unfaltering. With rehearsals for Halen yn y Gwaed every Saturday since May plus summer holiday sessions, over 100 local children, aged from 8 to 11 years have been singing, dancing, acting and learning lines for months. The end result was spectacular and the high standard of performance from the children was superb!

“What a talented bunch, the professionalism of those young people was outstanding!” said a member of the audience as they left, still singing the songs from the show.

The Children’s Pageant / Pasiant y Plant is a once in a lifetime opportunity, which has enabled local children to participate and celebrate their cultural heritage in one of the largest auditoria in Europe in front of a national and international audience.

Theatr na n’Óg, one of the leading Theatre-in-Education companies, were commissioned to direct and produce this year’s Pasiant y Plant. Celebrating its 25th anniversary next year, Theatr na n'Óg has been providing a first class bilingual service for schools in Swansea, Neath, Port Talbot and Bridgend, as well as touring family and children’s show all over the UK.

With such talented local children and young people, Theatr na n'Óg will be extending its work beyond school based projects into the local community, with a programme of outreach theatre arts participation projects funded by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust. The first of these projects start in September with the launch of Drama Clubs and a Youth Theatre at their premises in Neath, plus Welsh workshops in Neath and Swansea in partnership with the Urdd.
