The smash hit West End musical and the centrepiece of the Cardiff International Festival of Musical Theatre – GUYS AND DOLLS bursts onto Wales Millennium Centre’s stage on 10 to 28 October 2006 as part of its National Tour. The show boasts a sensational cast line up which the likes of Claire Sweeney as ‘Miss Adelaide’, Ben Richards as ‘Sky Masterson’, Joe McGann as ‘Nathan Detroit’ and Lisa Stokke as ‘Sarah Brown’.This is a big, wild show that provides an unforgettable glimpse into a Broadway of the 1940's that is full of gamblers, nightclubs and the self-righteous do-gooders out to clean it all up. Filled with classic songs like 'Luck Be a Lady', 'I'll Know', and 'Sit Down, You're Rocking the Boat', GUYS AND DOLLS sweeps audiences away with infectious melodies and a plot line that bobs and weaves around its central characters, Sky Masterson, Nathan Detroit and the lovely Sarah Brown. Fiona Allan Programming and Communications Director at WMC says: “GUYS AND DOLLS is a sensational show with a great cast and live orchestra to give it that showbiz pizzazz. A charismatic gambler, a prim and proper missionary woman, a hot-box dancer, her marriage-avoiding boyfriend and a whole lot of sinners make GUYS AND DOLLS an irresistible musical indulgence”. Claire Sweeney, who first came to national fame playing a starring role in “Brookside”, has starred to great acclaim in West End musicals, including playing ‘Roxie’ in “Chicago”. She is currently starring as ‘Miss Adelaide’ in the West End production of “GUYS AND DOLLS” opposite Patrick Swayze. Ben Richards has starred in the West End musicals “Grease”, “Saturday Night Fever” and “The Full Monty”, but is probably best-known for his leading roles in the television shows “Footballers’ Wives” and “Holby City”, as well as being a judge on the prime-time programme “Strictly Dance Fever”. Joe McGann has starred on television in “The Upper Hand”, “Dangerfield” and “Heartbeat”, and his theatre work includes starring as ‘Bill Sykes’ in “Oliver!” at the London Palladium. Norwegian-born Lisa Stokke recently played the starring role of ‘Sophie’ in “Mamma Mia!” for a year at the Prince Edward Theatre. These four principals will play their starring roles in “Guys and Dolls” for the first three months of the National Tour – King’s Theatre Glasgow (16 September – 7 October), Wales Millennium Centre Cardiff (10 – 28 October), Regent Theatre Stoke (31 October – 11 November) and New Victoria Theatre Woking (14 – 25 November). Michael Grandage’s production of “GUYS AND DOLLS”, the first new production in London for 23 years, is based on the stories of Damon Runyon. With music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and a book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, “GUYS AND DOLLS” is designed by Christopher Oram, with choreography by Rob Ashford, musical supervision by Jae Alexander, lighting by Howard Harrison and sound by Terry Jardine and Chris Full. Howard Panter for Ambassador Theatre Group and David Ian for Live Nation produce the Donmar Warehouse production of “GUYS AND DOLLS”. “GUYS AND DOLLS” continues to play to sell-out business at the Piccadilly Theatre in London, where it opened on 1 June 2005 to rave reviews, but starts in National Tour in Glasgow shortly. Guys and Doll is at Wales Millennium Centre from 10 to 29 October. Tickets range from £10 to £35. To book, contact the ticket and information office on 08700 40 2000 or visit: www.wmc.org.uk |
