A mermaid was found mysteriously washed up at Cardiff’s Roath Park Lake last week, much to the surprise of several intrigued swans. The mermaid is in fact actress Bethan Morgan, who was promoting The Sherman Theatre’s Christmas production The Stories of Hans Christian Andersen. The Stories of Hans Christian Andersen is a new family show written by Mike Kenny, and tells the stories of one of the world’s greatest storytellers, as well as the story of his own fascinating life. Director Phil Clark comments: “Hans Christian Andersen grew up wanting to be anything but a writer, and he also thought of himself as ugly – this is reflected in stories like The Ugly Duckling and The Little Mermaid. But his stories are universal, and he always placed young people at the centre of the drama which is also what we do here at The Sherman.” The Stories of Hans Christian Andersen will include Andersen’s best loved stories including The Little Mermaid, The Emperor’s New Clothes, The Ugly Duckling and The Princess and the Pea. In tradition with The Sherman Theatre Christmas productions, the cast will be made up of actor-musicians with original live music and spectacular sets and costumes. The Stories of Hans Christian Andersen opens on Friday 24 November and runs until Saturday 6 January. Tickets start from £10, with family tickets starting from £32. Tickets can be booked from The Sherman Theatre Box Office on 029 2064 6900. |
