Gwent Theatre in Education is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a specially commissioned drama by Wales’ outstanding poet and playwright Patrick Jones whose play is a celebration of the 150th anniversary of the National Anthem of Wales, Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau.Sing To Me, directed by Gary Meredith and showing at Wales Millennium Centre on Friday 17 November, traces the experiences of three young characters as they discover the nature of their nationality through Welsh history and their own relationships. The play takes the audience through pivotal points in Welsh history including the Chartists, Rebecca Riots, Merthyr Rising, Owain Glyndwr, Aneurin Bevan, Tryweryn, Aberfan and the Miners Strike. Working in partnership with the visual creative team from the International Film School of Wales in Newport, Sing To Me combines actors, film and animation with popular contemporary music and original music and soundtrack by Gethin Pearson. Sing to Me promises to be controversial, exciting and visually stunning. Patrick Jones himself says to not “expect a period costume drama and lots of rugby – it’s time for Wales to own up!” Suitable for 13 years and over, Sing to Me will show for one night only on Friday 17 November at 8pm. Tickets cost £9 and to book, call the Ticket Office on 08700 40 2000 or visit www.wmc.org.uk |
