CARDIFF SHAKESPEARE READERS – TAMING OF THE SHREW

CARDIFF SHAKESPEARE READERS – TAMING OF THE SHREW Based on similar enterprises in London and New York, "Cardiff Shakespeare Readers" is a new group for actors, directors, students, Shakespeare enthusiasts, amateurs, professionals, young and old to get together and experience ALL the great playwright's works as they were intended - spoken aloud!

We meet once a month in an evening, and read aloud one of Shakespeare’s plays. Working through the plays in rough chronological order, the aim is to read the complete works of Shakespeare.

Anyone is welcome to attend and read aloud, no matter what theatrical or literary experience (if any) they have. All that is required is an enthusiasm for the bard. If you don’t fancy reading, you can simply come along and listen. It's a great opportunity to further your knowledge of Shakespeare, meet other people in the industry, or just to socialise. I’m sure we’ll all end up in the bar afterwards for a pint.

Parts will be assigned on the night, but can be arranged in advance by email, if there is a particular part you wish to play. Please feel free to make these requests, and we will do our best to cater to them where possible. Otherwise parts will be handed out on the night. The evening will commence with a brief introduction to the play and what Shakespeare was up to at this stage in his career.

There is no charge for attending, but everyone is expected to bring along a copy of the relevant script. A “Complete Works” is fine. Please let me know if you would be interested in attending, and I’ll keep you up to date on any forthcoming plans.

Following on from the success of "Two Gentlemen of Verona" in September, our next play reading, "Taming of the Shrew" will be at "Seren" on Cowbridge Road East, on Tuesday October 30th at 7pm.

"Seren" is a small turkish restaurant with a pleasant and appropriately sized function room. There is a bar downstairs to fuel our comedy engines. If anybody wants to eat before-hand, or to phone the restaurant for directions, phone "Seren" on 02920 226242. The restaurant is a short walk from Chapter Arts Centre, down Cowbridge Road East heading towards town. It is opposite Tesco. There are carparks down small alleys on both sides of Cowbridge road near the restaurant.
