Four new works created by Welsh/Wales based choreographers will be presented at Chapter Arts Centre on 29 and 30 November as part of Welsh Independent Dance’s annual choreographic development programme, dance bytes. The programme began in April 1998 to support and facilitate the creation of new choreographic work from Wales based choreographers and has helped launch a number of choreographic careers including Jem Treays, Tanja Råman, Mr & Mrs Clark, Sandra Harnisch-Lacey and Eddie Ladd. ‘Work in Progress’ is the second stage of the process, following on from the first stage ‘Presentations’ in September in which six choreographers each presented a 10 - 15 minute piece demonstrating their initial choreographic ideas. Four exciting projects were selected to be developed further as part of the ‘Work in Progress’ platform, which promises to be an evening of innovative and experimental dance from talented choreographers Caroline Sabin, Kylie Ann Smith and Ricky White, Sally Marie and Matthew Howells. Although the primary aim of the dance bytes programme is to support emerging choreographers, the process is also very much geared towards audience engagement. The dance bytes initiative allows the artists and the audience to look closely at the creative process - what works, what doesn’t work and why? dance bytes encourages a public interest in the artist’s work and artist interest in the public’s views – this exchange is extremely important to the development of the work. Audience members are invited to get further involved in the process at the ‘Work in Progress’ stage through submitting comments relating to the pieces on feedback sheets and engaging in a post show discussion with the artists following the performance on 30 November. Come and see some of the best experimental dance that Wales has to offer in this highly engaging and varied programme, which is ideal for first time dance audiences and regular dance performance attenders. Tickets for dance bytes ‘Work on Progress’ on 29 and 30 November cost £7/£5.50 and can be obtained from Chapter’s box office on 029 20304400. Performances begin at 8pm. Early booking is recommended as the first stage of the programme in September sold out. Following the performances, two of the four pieces will be selected by the dance bytes panel to progress onto the third and final stage, ‘New Work’. The fully developed work will premiere at Chapter on 14 and 15 March 08. For more information please contact the WID office on 029 20387314 or info@welshindance.co.uk. |
