GYPT STAGE A CHRISTMAS CAROL TO CHEER IN THE NEW YEAR

GYPT STAGE A CHRISTMAS CAROL TO CHEER IN THE NEW YEAR What better way to cheer in the new year than by a theatrical experience that brings to life Dicken’s most popular and enduring of all festive stories.
This version of A Christmas Carol is an adaptation by John Mortimer for the Royal Shakespeare Company in which miserly Ebenezer Scrooge rediscovers the joys of Christmas after a series of ghostly – and highly dramatic - encounters.

It is staged by Gwent Young People’s Theatre at the Borough Theatre, Abergavenny on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 17, 18 & 19 January.

In a dramatisation praised for its flair and wit, John Mortimer creates a panoramic view of Victorian London and all the favourite characters - the misanthropic Ebenezer Scrooge, the spectral Jacob Marley, the warm and loving Bob Cratchit, the sadness of Tiny Tim and the Ghosts of Past, Present and Future.

Critics praise this boisterous, compassionate moral parable for its family entertainment which appeals “ to the grown-up in children and the child in grown-ups.”

Ebenezer Scrooge’s transformation from embittered skinflint to generous benefactor is faithful to Dickens's extraordinary mixture of fantastical melodrama and resurrection myth.

Scrooge's isolation from common humanity and his discovery of his former, younger self is a a mixture of great drama and showmanship and Gwent Young People’s Theatre promise to live up to their reputation for staging a polished production under the direction of professional theatre practitioners.

A Christmas Carol is at the Borough Theatre, Abergavenny, Thursday to Saturday 17, 18 & 19 January at 7.30pm (£7 adults/£5 conc) with a matinee on Friday 18 January at 1.30pm (all tickets £4). Tickets can be obtained at the Borough Theatre Box Office, Abergavenny, tel 01873 850805.
