Agatha Christie’s AND THEN THERE WERE NONE is the archetypal whodunit as a group of 10 strangers, lured to a dinner party on a remote island, mysteriously disappear one by one over the course of the night. And Then There Were None features an all-star cast including Gerald Harper (Adam Adamant), Chloe Newsome (Coronation Street) and Alex Ferns (EastEnders). Alfred Hitchcock’s 30s spy thriller THE 39 STEPS gets a hilarious make-over in this Olivier Award winning stage spoof. 4 fearless actors play 139 roles in 100 minutes as the West End smash hit comedy comes to the New Theatre from 19 – 23 February before heading to Broadway. Clwyd Theatr Cymru return from 4 – 8 March with a new production of Shakespeare’s tale of love, magic and mischief in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM. The course of true love never did run smooth, as supernatural powers, fairies and a local troupe of bumbling actors all foil the romantic advances of two pairs of young Athenians in Shakespeare’s most popular comedy. Affairs of the heart are also going awry in Oliver Goldsmith’s SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER at the New from 11 – 15 March. Liza Goddard and Colin Baker star in this original comedy of manners packed with merry mix-ups, bawdy dialogue and lashings of laughter. James Fleet (The Vicar of Dibley) is a hapless EU minister attempting to cover up his less than pristine private life in IN THE CLUB, an uproarious new farce coming to the New as part of a selective UK tour from 18 – 22 March. One of Britain’s greatest living actors, SIMON CALLOW, returns to the New in the gripping theatrical masterpiece EQUUS (7 – 12 April). Peter Shaffer’s drama about a psychologist’s attempts to cure a 17 year old darkly obsessed with horses recently played to packed houses in the West End. This touring version also stars ALFIE ALLEN, brother of Lily and star of Atonement, as the disturbed Alan Strang. Patricia Hodge (Rumpole of the Bailey) and Eleanor Bron (All About My Mother in the West End) star in THE CLEAN HOUSE from 15 – 19 April, the Pulitzer Prize nominated comedy by Sarah Ruhl about one woman’s battles with her eccentric cleaner. Other great dramas now on sale include psychological thriller SLEUTH (2 – 7 June) with Simon MacCorkindale and Michael Praed and ROOTS AND WINGS (10 – 14 June) an outrageous comedy from Frank Vickery. There’s plenty of fantastic musicals to ‘Shout about’ this season, starting with the ultimate 60s night out – SHOUT! THE MUSICAL (25 Feb – 1 Mar). Claire Sweeney stars in this swinging show transferring from Broadway, packed with 60s hits including: Downtown, Son of a Preacher Man, These Boots Are Made for Walking and many more… Tommy Steele is “the man who can talk to the animals” in the multi-coloured extravaganza DOCTOR DOLITTLE (25 Mar – 5 Apr). A huge company of singers, dancers and puppeteers plus some jaw-dropping special effects bring this family favourite vividly to life on the New Theatre stage! “The Most Popular British Musical of All Time” returns to the New Theatre from 21 April to 3 May. Willy Russell’s BLOOD BROTHERS tells the captivating tale of twin boys, separated by birth only to be reunited by a twist of fate. This popular crowd-pleaser has packed out the New Theatre many times, and is sure to do so again. Other musical treats now on sale include: Orbit Theatre in the “happiest show in town” ME & MY GIRL (13 – 17 May), THE RAT PACK: LIVE FROM LAS VEGAS (19 – 24 May) returns with the greatest hits of Frank, Sammy and Dean, Anita Dobson, Darren Day and David McAlister star in HELLO, DOLLY! (16 – 21 June), take a trip to the tropical SOUTH PACIFIC in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s classic musical (14 – 19 July) and dance back to the 70s with Kid Creole in OH! WHAT A NIGHT (23 – 26 July). For the younger theatregoers there are adventures on the high seas with TREASURE ISLAND from 12 – 16 February. Birmingham Stage Company brings this swash-buckling version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s pirate escapade to the New prior to a West End run. Then for even littler ones, ELMER THE PATCHWORK ELEPHANT comes to play from 7 – 10 May. With silly songs, marvellous magic and multicoloured fun, Elmer is perfect entertainment for 3 to 6 year olds. Plus the sell-out sensation that is HORRIBLE HISTORIES is back from 24 – 28 June. Terry Deary’s great and gruesome take on The Terrible Tudors and The Vile Victorians is once again presented in sensational 3D Bogglevision! From 27 – 31 May Northern Ballet Theatre present their dazzling and inspired dance interpretation of Shakespeare’s A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM. Set on a train journey to Edinburgh in the 1940s this beautiful Olivier Award nominated production features music from Mendelssohn and Brahms performed live by the NBT Orchestra. Finally we must not forget the awe-inspiring, jaw dropping, horrific and terrific CIRCUS OF HORRORS which opens the Spring Season at the New from 31 January – 2 February. This new show, dubbed “The Asylum” sees Doktor Haze and his troupe of oddities, fakirs and death defying circus acts run riot in Paris. This show is certainly tongue in cheek, but is still for the viewing pleasure of adults only! Spring performances interpreted in British Sign Language are TREASURE ISLAND (Saturday 16 February, 2.00pm), DOCTOR DOLITTLE (Saturday 29 March, 2.30pm), BLOOD BROTHERS (Thursday 24 April, 7.30pm), ROOTS & WINGS (Saturday 14 June, 2.30pm) and SOUTH PACIFIC (Saturday 19 July, 2.30pm). On Saturday 22 March at 7.30pm IN THE CLUB will carry a live Audio Description for visually impaired theatre-goers, as will DOCTOR DOLITTLE (Saturday 5 April, 2.30pm), THE CLEAN HOUSE (Saturday 19 April, 2.30pm), BLOOD BROTHERS (Saturday 26 April, 2.30pm) and HELLO, DOLLY!
