Brand new comedy starring James Fleet: In the Club at New Theatre, Cardiff |
The riotous new comedy In the Club comes to the New Theatre from Tuesday 18 to Saturday 22 March. A cheeky laugh-out-loud romp, In the Club stars Vicar of Dibley’s James Fleet.Hapless MEP Philip Wardrobe has a busy day ahead of him, balancing his less than irreproachable political career with his attempts to start a family. As he prepares for his girlfriend to fly in from Kettering for an afternoon of fertile frolics, his plan to be voted President of the European Parliament is foiled at every turn by his unpredictable colleagues; uncouth Yorkshiremen, irate Turks and amorous Frenchwomen…to say nothing of the mysterious man in the linen cupboard! A Strasbourg hotel suite provides the setting for the door-slamming shenanigans in which Philip’s personal and political life collide with hilarious results. Poor Philip’s day disintegrates hilariously…along with both his intimate and professional relationships. An uproarious farcical comedy, In the Club brilliantly keeps audiences laughing from beginning to end. Much-loved actor James Fleet (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Art, Habeus Corpus) is joined by a hugely talented cast of actors including Huw Higginson, best known for his role of George Garfield in The Bill and Carla Mendoca (My Parents are Aliens). Written by one of today’s most exciting new writers, Richard Bean (Harvest), In the Club is directed by Tony Award-winning director David Grindley who won Best Revival for Journey’s End in 2007 and was Olivier nominated for his revival of Abigail’s Party in 2002.
