The What's Welsh for Performance? Beth yw >Performance< yn Gymraeg? database is an online searchable resource documenting nearly 2000 performance events in Wales from January 1965 to the present day. VISIT: http://www.performance-wales.org/english/archive/database.htm The database's remit covers performance art along with experimental theatre and dance, installation art, sonic art and performance poetry. The database records performance work that has taken place within the geographic borders of Wales, including performances made in Wales by artists from outside of Wales. The aim is to explore how an artistic scene is formed; and how the archiving of performance contributes to the constitution and recognition of such a scene. For a full list of the artists currently represented VISIT: http://www.performance-wales.org/english/archive/database/artists.htm The database combines: a record of dates and venues, artists' accounts, reviews, photographic records, oral histories and an index of other available documentary materials (audio-visual documentation, publications, ephemera, imagery or memory) and their locations. The database went online in the autumn of 2007. It is housed at the What's Welsh for Performance? Beth yw >Performance< yn Gymraeg? website devoted to uncovering and archiving the history of performance art in Wales. The site offers an archive, publications, events information, resources and links. http://www.performance-wales.org If you have any information on performance in Wales that could be of use to the project, please get in touch! Whether you are an artist who has made performance work in Wales, or an audience member who once witnessed a performance (voluntarily or involuntarily!), we would be pleased to hear from you. Any material will be of interest - from actual pieces of documentation to vague memories of events caught out of the corner of one's eye.
