THE YAMATO DRUMMERS OF JAPAN ARE IN TOWN! The mesmeric and dynamic Yamato Drummers of Japan return to Cardiff, direct from the West End, with their new show on Wednesday 2 April. A spectacular performance of traditional Japanese ensemble drumming of delicate beauty and phenomenal bass power plays at St David’s Hall as part of their 25th Anniversary celebrations for one night only!

Led by founder and director, Masaaki Ogawa; this thrilling company have been touring the world for nine years and over 2 million people of all ages have seen their spectacularly entertaining shows throughout Asia, Europe, North and South America and Canada.

This is the company’s fourth major UK tour, coming direct from London’s Sadler’s Wells’ Peacock Theatre for their one and only Welsh date.
The Yamato drums range from the size of a small plate to over a metre in diameter, including the Odaiko drum, hewn from one huge tree over four hundred years old. The sheer physical strength and movement of the drummers is as impressive as the music, in this visually spectacular and highly dramatic show.

This incredibly skilled company of male and female drummers was founded in Nara, said to be the birthplace of Japanese culture. Yamato is a very significant word for the Japanese; a reminder of a peaceful and important artistic period of their history.
